Meeting the Marry Jane Team: Interview with Afrim Saliu (Part 1)

Afrim Saliu

It’s Monday, ladies and gentlemen, so we start a new working week with an interview with a member of the Marry Jane team. And our conversation promises to be full of interesting information and facts because the team member we’re talking to today really knows what he’s doing. Today’s article is the first installment of our interview with Afrim Saliu who is the co-founder and managing director of the company. Below, you will learn about Afrim’s background, the first time he heard about CBD, when he joined Marry Jane and what he believes makes the company special. Are you already excited and want to know what Afrim’s favourite Marry Jane products are? Then sit back, make yourself comfortable and enjoy reading because we’re starting our conversation right now!

Afrim, traditionally we start our interviews with some personal background information. Please tell us something about yourself: Where are you from? Where did you grow up and what did you study?

I was born in northern Macedonia and grew up in a small village near Basel. My friends describe me as very determined, better said as a “workhorse”. My background is from the construction industry, so more precisely, I worked as an employee for almost 10 years as a building services planner specializing in heating/air conditioning. Today I am the managing director and employ around 90 people.

Do you remember the first time you heard about CBD? When was that? How did you feel at that moment?

I think that was in 2014. The first thing I did was Googling, but without great success, you had to search for a long time until you found the three letters with reference to cannabis. I then immediately thought of an epileptic school friend who already treats himself with THC-containing cannabis, that this “cannabis light” might also help.

What made you decide that you wanted to start a business that was in the CBD industry?

With my brother we were one of the first CBD producers. We then also opened the first shops in Switzerland, which was pretty much at the end of September 2016, then came the boom, where we also met the current founders of Marry Jane. And so Marry Jane was born in 2017.

Have you ever imagined that CBD could be your business?

Not at the very beginning. The thought was far away to imagine that the acceptance for cannabis is growing so fast.

What was the most difficult or challenging part of starting Marry Jane?

It started very early, e.g. opening a bank account or renting a production space, because cannabis was not an accepted topic, only cancellations came. It then continued with staff, there were no trained cannabis professionals. Every day is a new challenge and as a well-functioning team it is also fun to clear such stones out of the way.

What are your personal favourites among the Marry Jane products?

Our development team is constantly bringing new products and I favor all of Marry Jane’s products. Currently, I have fallen in love with our freeze dried flowers.

Dear friends, this is the end of the first part of our conversation with Afrim Saliu, the co-founder and managing director of the company. Did you find it interesting? We certainly hope so. What’s more, the second part is even more fascinating and entertaining. It’s coming soon, so don’t miss it on our blog. If you have any questions or comments for our team of professionals who are always on hand to assist you, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Stay safe and have a productive week!
